First Year Admission Procedures

  1. Submit your completed Application for Admission 
  2. Request to have your official ACT or SAT scores sent to Montana Tech
    • Test scores are optional for an admission decision. However, they are used to determine course placement and eligibility for some scholarships, so they are recommended. 
    • Scores must be sent directly from the testing company using Montana Tech’s school code; ACT (2418) and SAT (4487).
  3. Request to have your final high school transcript sent to Montana Tech upon graduation
    • Transcripts should come directly from your high school and must include your graduation date, final GPA, and an official signature.
    • If you completed a High School Equivalency Exam, official scores must be sent to Enrollment Services with your application.
  4. Request to have any college-level credit, such as AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment sent to Montana Tech
    • Advanced Placement scores must be sent directly from College Board.
    • International Baccalaureate scores must be submitted with an official IB transcript.
    • Dual Enrollment credits must be submitted with an official transcript from the administering college or university.
 

Primary Requirements

Admission can be determined based on any of the following criterion:

  • Earn a minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Rank in the top half of your high school’s graduating class
  • Earn a minimum ACT composite score of 22
  • Earn a minimum SAT total score of 1120

Math Proficiency Requirements

Proficiency can be determined based on any of the following criterion:

  • Earn a minimum ACT Math score of 22
  • Earn a minimum SAT Math score of 27.5
  • Earn a minimum score of 3 on the AP Calculus AB or BC exam
  • Earn a score of 4 on the IB Calculus test

Writing Proficiency Requirements

Proficiency can be determined based on any of the following criterion:

  • Earn a minimum ACT English Language Arts (ELA) score of 18
  • Earn a minimum ACT Writing score of 07
  • Earn a minimum SAT Writing and Language Test score of 25
  • Earn a minimum score of 3 on the AP English Language or Literature exam
  • Earn a minimum score of 4 on the IB Language A1 exam

College Preparatory Requirements

The Montana University System requires that you complete the following college preparatory requirements:

  • Four years of English.
  • Three years of Mathematics, including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. (Students are encouraged to take a math course their senior year of high school).
  • Three years of Social Studies, including Global Studies (such as World History or World Geography), American History, Government, Economics, Indian History or other third-year courses.
  • Two years of Laboratory Science, including one year of Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
  • Two years of Elective Courses, including any combination of Computer Science, World Language, Visual and Performing Arts, or Vocational Education.

Apply for Federal Financial Aid ✓

Priority Deadline: December 1st

FAFSA Code: 002531
To apply for financial aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov. The FAFSA application opens in October and official award notifications will be sent in February to the email address you provided on the FAFSA application.

Apply for Scholarships ✓

Priority Deadline: December 15th

Scholarships are available to students who demonstrate high academic achievement and active involvement in their community and school. Students must apply for admission to Montana Tech to receive access to the online scholarship application. Instructions on how to access the application will be sent to the email address provided on your application for admission.

Reserve Housing ✓

Assigned 1st come, 1st served: Apply early!

To reserve your campus housing, complete the online application and submit a $100 deposit. First-year students with fewer than 30 credits are required to live on campus.

Submit Immunizations ✓

Priority Deadline: July 1st

The Montana University System requires all students to submit proof of two (2) separate doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella immunization (MMR). Immunization records must be submitted to Enrollment Services prior to registering for classes.

Register for Classes ✓

Priority Deadline: July 1st

Registration for new students opens in May and continues throughout the summer. Instructions on how to register for classes will be sent to the email address provided on your application for admission.

Finalize Enrollment ✓

Deadline: 1st day of class

To finalize your enrollment, log in to OrediggerWeb and pay/finalize your tuition and fees. Notification will be sent to the email address you provided on your application for admission. This step must be completed to have scholarships and financial aid credit to your account.

Attend Orientation ✓

Spring Orientation: January, 2020

Fall Orientation: August, 2020

All new students are required to attend Orientation. During this time you will meet new friends and classmates, learn about the social and academic transition to attending college at Montana Tech, and explore all the services available to you on campus. Orientation information will be sent to the email address on your application for admission.
