Strategic Plan - A Philosophy of Excellence

Montana Tech campus and Big Butte

Introduction

MISSION STATEMENT
Montana Tech, through exemplary undergraduate and graduate education, workforce development, research, and service, builds on a strong heritage in engineering, science, and technology that blends theory with practice in meeting the changing needs of society and the responsible development and use of natural resources. (PROPOSED DRAFT)

Dear Montana Tech Community,

I am extremely proud to be part of an institution that is making such a positive impact on the world, nation, state, and community. I believe in our mission statement and the role Tech plays in developing leaders who responsibly use our natural resources. I appreciate Tech’s dedication to programs that blend theory with practice and prepare our graduates for the workplace, graduate education, or professional schools. I know we have all witnessed how ordinary people come to Tech, study with purpose, graduate, and then move on to live extraordinary lives.

To continue our extraordinary journey as an institution, we are committed to deliberate planning and renewal. Our Strategic Plan is a living document that will help guide us over the next several years. As you read our Strategic Plan, my expectation is that you will embrace it as indeed being “our plan.” The plan was developed with input from as many Montana Tech constituents as we could involve, and thus reflects our goals and aspirations. From beginning to end the process involved faculty members, staff, students, community members, Foundation board members and staff, and industrial advisory board members. The plan is a framework on which we will build and implement action plans, allocate resources, and then review and celebrate our achievements.

As you read through the plan, allow yourself to dream a little bit. Perhaps you will be reminded to celebrate a past success or achievement. Ask yourself what actions you can take to help achieve the goals of Our Strategic Plan. I am looking forward to the future of Montana Tech.

Best regards,
