The General Engineering Department is the largest engineering department at Montana Tech. Graduates are highly sought after from industry and demand excellent starting salaries. Alumni currently hold positions ranging from design engineers to engineering managers and corporate CEOs. Graduates work in a wide range of industries including energy production, manufacturing, areospace, construction, robotics and research.

DEGREE, PROGRAMS, & SPECIALIZATIONS

Students can pursue both an undergraduate Bachelor of Science and a graduate level Master of Science in General Engineering. Students must select a specialization option from Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Welding Engineering. The department offers many funded research projects under which students can pursue advanced research studies.

Civil Engineering: In addition to the general engineering core, this option offers the student a specialization in the civil engineering areas of foundations and structures and surface water hydrology and hydraulics. Civil engineering graduates work in construction, design roads, bridges and water treatment facilities. MORE »

Mechanical Engineering: This option prepares the graduate for jobs in the broad field of mechanical engineering including power production and use, equipment design, manufacturing, mechanical system design, mechatronics and maintenance. MORE »

Welding Engineering: This option offers a sound education in welding processes, codes and standards requirements, nondestructive examination and welding metallurgy. With only 75 Welding Engineering graduates in the U.S. each year, this option offers exceptional job placement. MORE »
