WIRELESS SETUP:

WINDOWS XP



Step 1 : Open your Windows Wireless Client Utility by clicking the balloon or icon at the bottom of the desktop titled "Wireless networks detected".

Step 2: Select the wireless network SSID called “MTSecure” and Click “connect”.

Next Click the “Change advanced settings” button on the left side of the Windows Wireless Client Utility.

Step 3: In this next window Click the “Wireless Networks” tab.  (see picture below). Under the “Preferred Networks” heading find the network called “MTSecure (Automatic)” Select it and Click “Properties”

Step 4: Clicking properties in the previous step opens the following window. Change the Network Authentication to WPA as shown below. Note: If WPA is not an option on your computer, you need to update your wireless card driver to the latest version.

Step 5: Next, Click the Authentication tab to display the authentication information.

First Change the “EAP type” from “Smart card..….” To “Protected EAP (PEAP)”

Second Clear the Check Box titled “Authenticate as computer……..”

Third Click the “Properties” Button to the right and under the “EAP type:” combo box.

Step 6: A new window opens titled, "Protected EAP Properties" Clear the check box titled “Validate server certificate”

Step 7: Next Click the “Configure…” button to the right of "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)". This will bring up a new window, Clear the box titled “Automatically use my Windows logon name".

Click “OK” to all the windows you just opened and return to your windows desktop. Step 8: You will see a balloon popup by your wireless network connection titled “Wireless Network Connection”

Step 9: In this window titled “Enter Credentials” Enter your Montana Tech username and password along with the “Logon domain” name of  “MTECHS”  then Click OK. Your computer should now get a DHCP lease from the server and be able to access the internet.

Steps 8 and 9 may need to be repeated as you connect and disconnect from the network.

Troubleshooting:

If you have completed the above steps and cannot connect go back to Step 4 and change the Data encryption from AES to TKIP and click OK.  If you continue to have problems, bring your notebook computer to Network Services.  Also, ensure that your wireless radio is ON.  Some notebooks have a hot key for turning the radio OFF.
