Move a File from Moodle to the Media Server

Downloading Files from Moodle

PDF

  1. Make sure that you are using the Firefox web browser.
  2. Open your course and find a PDF file that you wish to move to the media server.
Click the What's New in Moodle? button.
  1. Click the PDF file. It should begin downloading.
  2. The PDF file will be downloaded to your Downloads folder by default. This is where the file will be located when you are ready to upload the file.

Video

  1. Open your course and find a video file that you wish to move to the media server.
Click on the Drag and Drop Files (Video) button.
  1. Right click somewhere near the center of the video, then click “Save Video As”.
  2. Navigate to where you want to save the video on your machine, then click Save near the bottom of the dialog box.
Click on the Save button.

Microsoft Office Document

  1. Open your course and Microsoft Office Document that you wish to move to the media server.

  1. Right click the Office Document and click “Save Link As”.
After rigth clicking Wimba screen shot, click Save Link As...
  1. Navigate to where you want to save the document on your machine, then click Save near the bottom of the dialog box.
In the file explorer, click Save once you have found where you want to save

Uploading Files to the Media Server

  1. Navigate to http://media.mtech.edu, and if it asks, sign in to your MTech account.
  2. The screen will look very similar to the below image.

  1. Select a folder using the left dropdown menu.

  1. Navigate to the file that you want uploaded using the “Browse…” button in the middle of the grey box.

  1. Click “Upload” to upload the document.

  1. Select and copy the link that shows up near the bottom of the grey box.

Using Moodle to Link to Files on the Media Server

  1. Open your Moodle course and turn editing on.

  1. Navigate to the section where you want to place the link.
  2. Click “Add an activity or resource” in the bottom right of the section.

  1. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select URL.

  1. Click “Add” on the bottom of the dialog box.

  1. Select a name for your file. This will be displayed on your Moodle course.
  2. Paste the link that you copied when you uploaded the file to the media server into “External URL”.
  3. A description is not required.
Name and link the new content in moodle.
  1. Click “Save” at the bottom of the page.
