How do I configure my e-Mail manually?

If you would like to POP [pull] your Tech student email to a mailbox on another mail system.
[Gmail, Yahoo, WindowsLive/Hotmail, Bresnan, Quest...]

Please enter the following information into their POP-mail configuration screens to pull any mail located within your Tech student mailbox.

POP3/IMAP4 configuration information:

  • Mailbox Address: {your full Tech email address -}
  • AccountName(username): {your Tech campus signon, not your email address}
  • Server Port Number: We use the default values for these protocols.
    [POP: port 110 or 995 for SSL]
    [IMAP: port 143 or 993 for SSL]

General Notes:

- Use our service alias: POPMAIL.MTECH.EDU for the POPserver (service) name.
- Do not configure Server Names/IP addresses as these are subject to change.

- Do not confuse your Email Address with your Account/Username/Sign-on
- Our servers now support SSL encryption via 3rd-party certificates.

- Our campus DomainName [if requested] for your sign-on is: MTECHS
- If you need to add the DomainName to your UserName separate with \ [slash]

Configuring SMTP:

If you are attempting to use a Pop3/Imap4 client [Outlook Express, Eudora, Thunderbird, etc] to SEND mail via the SMTP protocol, this functionality is generally disallowed (relaying is blocked because virus contaminated machines use this functionality). We recommend that as an alternative you instead POP your Tech mail to one of the 3rd-party mail providers listed below and then send email via their web-based interface.
