Freshman   Engineering   Program

Pre-Engineering

Freshman Engineering students with ACT/SAT math placement scores at the Intermediate or College Algebra level will be required to enroll in a Pre-Engineering curriculum until they are ready for Pre-Calculus.

The Pre-Engineering curriculum is proven to successfully prepare students for the intensive Freshman Engineering Program and is highly recommended. However, if you feel your placement should be higher, two options are available:

  • Take a COMPASS placement exam at any state or community college. The test fee is minimal and there is no limit to the number of attempts. Montana Tech offers a free study aid, edready.org, for the COMPASS test. Students may also sign up for a local COMPASS test.

Students may also enroll in a summer math course. Contact Enrollment Services at (406) 496-4256 or enrollment@mtech.edu for more details about these two options.
