About 90% of Montana Tech undergraduate students receive scholarships or grants. In other words, our financial aid team works hard to help our students graduate with the lowest debt loads of any school in Montana.
Montana Tech has three residence halls to choose from, each with distinct character. All non-local first-year students are required to live in a residence hall for their first year at Montana Tech.
We accept applications beginning the summer before your senior year. Not there yet? We can still answer your questions, and help you prepare to apply.

If you don't have your PURL address, just visit http://iam.mtech.edu/ and type your email address into the email field. The system will then redirect you to your PURL. Make sure to bookmark it and remember your password!
Transcripts are only considered 'official' when all grades and a graduation date have been posted, and the document is sent to Montana Tech via a secure delivery service like Parchment or Scoir, an email from a counselor, or mailed in a signed, sealed envelope. An official transcript cannot be sent until after your high school graduation.
Please send to:

Montana Tech may request an unofficial transcript from you to determine if preparatory requirements have been met, to evaluate dual credit transference, to determine course placement, etc. You may simply email unofficial transcripts to us.
No. Montana Tech is test-optional, and there are other ways to gain admittance. However, we do encourage you to take the ACT and/or SAT, as scores are used to determine math and writing placement, and to qualify for some scholarships.
Request that your test scores are sent to Montana Tech using our test codes: ACT – 2418 and SAT – 4487
The Montana University System requires all students from the U.S. to submit proof of two measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccinations (or proof of immunity, or religious/medical exemption). Records may be sent via email to admissions@mtech.edu or via fax to 406-496-4707.
Please do not submit another application. Instead, please email the Admissions Office at admissions@mtech.edu with whatever changes you would like to make.
The application deadline for fall-entry students is August 15 and for spring-entry students is January 3. The most-popular times for many courses do fill up quickly, so we strongly recommend that you do not wait that long!
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov. The FAFSA application will open in December 2023 and official award notifications will be sent in April to the email address you provided on the FAFSA application. Mt Tech’s FAFSA code is 002531.
The priority deadline is March 1, 2024, but if you miss it, just complete the FAFSA as soon as you can. The sooner you complete it, the better.
Oredigger Merit scholarships are automatically awarded based on the GPA and test scores submitted when you applied for admission. Merit award offers are sent starting in November, and on a continuing basis thereafter until March 1.
Watch your PURL and email for details on additional Montana Tech scholarship applications that are available to some qualifying students, including the Presidential scholarship.
We recommend applying for as many outside scholarships as you can find. Businesses, non-profits, and churches often have scholarships available for students in their localities.
Montana students should also check out Reach Higher Montana. Not only do they award a larger number of scholarships every year, they also have lists of other outside scholarships that you may qualify for.
Maybe. Within the Montana University System, non-local first-year students with fewer than 30 completed credits are required to live on campus.
If you already live within 50 miles (commuting distance), you are considered a local student and do not have to live in the Residence Halls if you plan to stay living at home.
To reserve your campus housing, complete the online application on your PURL and submit the $100 deposit. The deposit is refundable through May 1.
Registration for new fall students opens in April and continues throughout the summer. Instructions on how to connect with your academic advisor and get registered for classes will be posted on your PURL and sent to the email address provided on your application for admission.
Yes! You must finalize your enrollment! Log in to OrediggerWeb and pay/finalize your tuition and fees. This step must be completed to have scholarships and financial aid credited to your account.

You’ll meet new friends and classmates, learn about the social and academic transition to Montana Tech, and explore all the services available to you on campus. Orientation information will be sent to the email address on your application for admission.
Highlands College first-year students have their own admission requirements, though the overall pathway to campus is similar to north campus majors.
Are you an international first-year student? International students have separate requirements for both admissions and entry into the United States.
